If you find yourself thinking about the right degree program, this blog post will help you to look at the different degree programs offered in WIUC and then you can draw your own conclusions.

WIUC Undergraduate Degree Package:

Diploma in Information Technology that students can pursue for 2 years and then head straight to university from level 300.
Also, all BA Business Studies programmes are available now on weekends.

In the midst of all these amazing degree programs, you can be forgiven if you don’t know the one to choose. But first, let's look at the different degrees and see what is required of you to learn if it is really a  good idea to pursue one of them.

Computer Science and Management (WCOM).
Wisconsin International University College offers a degree program in Computer Science and Management popularly called (WCOM). Choosing this degree means that you know much about computers or at least you have the passion or zeal to learn and computer programming. This degree, however, is not a pure Computer Science degree, so you will be reading mainly 75% IT courses and 25% management courses.

You should also note that when you go for Computer Science and Management Degree, you will graduate with Bachelor of Art (BA)  instead of Bachelor of Science… Because of this, some students don’t go for this degree. Remember, if you love computers and you want to learn programming and you are also good with calculations, this degree is for you.

However, if you prefer reading courses with a little computer component, then you might as well consider Management and Computer Studies.

Management and Computer Studies (BMS).
Management and Computer Studies alias BMS is another degree package offered by Wisconsin. Those who really care about the BA in computer Science and Management have nothing to worry about because you will be given BSc. However, you should note that the BSc is in Management and not in IT.

If you are business minded but also want to know a little about computers, this degree is for you. If you love IT and you really want to learn programming, this degree is not for you. Don’t just go for it because of you will be issued BSc. The BSc is in management and not in computer studies.

Business Studies (BBS).
Business studies is another unique degree package offered by Wisconsin with specialization in the following areas:

BA Business Studies, Marketing
BA Business Studies, Banking & Finance
BA Business Studies, Human Resource Management
BA Business Studies, Accounting
BA Business Studies, General

The business students don’t have to bother about programming or complicated IT courses that WCOM and BMS students struggle with. If you love reading, and do less calculation, this degree is for you.

Diploma in Information Technology.
Wisconsin University college also runs a 2 years Diploma program in IT. When you are done with this program and you wish to earn a degree  in Wisconsin, you can do that by starting at level 300. This means that on your day of graduation, you have two reasons to smile; a degree certificate and a well-recognized diploma certificate in IT.

There is no degree program that is explicitly declared difficult, it all depends on the individuals interest and dreams. For example, this blogger will definitely not  go for BBS because he is not good in reading courses (Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Human Resource Management, etc.,). He  enjoy calculations and programming (Java, C++, C, Visual Basic, Quantitative Methods, etc.,).

So it all goes down to what you like and what you can be able to study in college, and not what your friends or parents tell you that is the best. With this blog post,  this blogger  believes that students or prospective students  will be able to choose the right undergraduate degree program that will help them to get 1st class or at worst 2nd class upper in their 4 years of study.

  1. Why do they give BA to WCOM and BBM? Why not BSc?

  2. Hi. I think WCOM gets Bachelor of Arts not Bachelor of Science because, it is not a pure computer science degree. You get to do other business courses. You can call this business computing... They can't possibly give you bachelor of science since you are not fully doing computer science.

  3. @Odutola Tolulope, WCOM and BBS are awarded BA not BSc. For BBS obviously because it is business studies. For WCOM, I think Pascal is right. You can also visit the school administration or the Head of Department for WCOM students for further clarifications.
