Should pregnant girls be kicked out of school? Some schools
in US don’t think so. According to USA TODAY News, La.
school has stopped the kicking out of pregnant students. Louisiana school also said that they
will stop kicking out pregnant girls and
also stop
forced pregnancy tests.
Initially,
the schools forces pregnancy tests on suspected girls. They now intend to
change all their policy that sacks pregnant girls from school or suspected
girls who refuse to go for pregnancy test.
It
is believed that such policies is in violation of Title IX of the 1972 federal
education law, which requires equal opportunities for both sexes. Too
many schools do not realize pregnant students should receive equal treatment,
the National Women's Law Center said in a June report.
"Despite
enormous advances for women and girls in education since 1972, schools across
the country continue to bar pregnant and parenting students from activities,
kick them out of school, pressure them to attend alternative programs, and
penalize them for pregnancy-related absences," the law center said in the
report.
