When you buy a personal computer or a laptop computer with windows 7 pre-installed, you must have discovered that your computer name is "John-PC". While a lot of students answer John, everybody's name is not John.
There is a good chance that you would like to change your computer name to your own name or something easier to identify. In this blog post, I will show you how you can change the name of your personal computer or laptop.
How To Steps:
1) Open the Run Dialog box:
The run box is a small window that you can use to issue command to windows. If you want to open a program like notepad, just type in notepad in the command line and hit enter. Windows will automatically open notepad for you.
Great isn't it? Now we want to open windows advanced setting so that we can be able to change our computer name. From the start menu, type in the word run and click on it to open the Run dialog box.
You can also achieve this by simply using the keyboard shortcut, WINDOWS KEY + R.
2) Run the windows command "sysdm.cpl"
When you open the Run window, type in "sysdm.cpl" without any quotation marks and click ok. This should load the Advanced systems Settings panel.
3) On the System Properties window click on "Change"
When you run the command "sysdm.cpl", the Advanced System Settings Panel will load for you. Now click on "Change".
4 ) Enter a new computer and Restart:
When you click on change, a new dialog box "Computer Name/Domain Changes" will appear. Change your computer name by entering the new name. When you are done, click on "OK". Don’t change anything else.
5) Restart your computer to apply the changes.
When you are done changing the name of your computer, you will be asked to restart your computer to save changes. Click Ok and restart your machine. When you boot-up your machine, you will discover that your computer is no longer John-PC.
