Are you new in WIUC? Learn How you can Get By.


The new Akwaaba party that is held every semester to welcome fresher's is good but cannot be enough. The Akwaaba party may be entertaining, but we are not going to forget the primary reason why you are in Ghana, to study and to get a good degree. So if you are a fresher or a continuing student and you don’t know how you can get by on campus, this blog post is meant for you.

I am going to guide you around the university campus so that you become familiar with your school like the back of your hand. If you have any questions or more suggestions, you can leave a comment.

WIUC may not be some 50 acres of land university, but if you don’t know your way around, you will always find it difficult to mingle and get along with what is happening on campus. These are some key places in campus you should get familiar with if you are not already.

Career Guidance and Placement Center.

WIUC Career Guidance and Placement Center is a place you go for career counseling and guidance. It is the green building at the back gate of the university, opposite Jesiward Hostel. Do you need some counseling or career guidance on how to choose a better degree program? You can check out the Career Guidance and Placement Center for an in depth counseling. Don’t start WCOM today less informed and rush to BMS or BBS the next semester…

Also, students who would like to do some internship at different organizations can also visit the Career Guidance and Placement Center to be told how they can go about it.

Writing Center.

The writing center is open 5 days of the week teaching writing skills, giving personal assistance and academic counseling to students. When you are working on your project work, writing a book, writing a proposal or any personal piece, you can visit the writing  to get a 45 minutes of 1 - on - 1 assistance. You can also receive help on all forms of writings(assignments or project work in all disciplines)
Walk-ins are welcome; however you are advised to book appointments to ensure that you are attended to when you come as many students could be offered help at the time you walk in. The writing center is located at the University Academic Block, Main Campus.

Reception.

Wisconsin reception is where you get administrative information about the university. If you are looking for your lecturer's phone  number, you can visit the reception and ask for the number. Without any hassle, you will be given the lecturer's number provided you the know his or her name and probably, the course he or she teaches.

Academic Secretariat.

The university academic secretariat is where you can go and receive help with locating where your lecture class is. So if you can't locate the venue of your lecture, you can visit the academic secretariat for some help. Sometimes, if you want to submit your assignment and the lecturer  is not around, you can visit the academic secretariat. You can easily find the academic secretariat at the academic block, main campus.

Students Medical Care Center.
WIUC has a clinic dedicated to students. If you are on campus and you don't feel well, just visit the school medics for immediate attention. The medical treatment is part of the benefits you enjoy as a Wisconsin student, so don't hesitate to visit there if you are sick. There is nothing much that will be required of you except your student ID card and a form you will be given to fill if you are visiting there for the first time. If you have visited there before, you don't need to fill any form. All you need to get medical attention is your student ID card and your clinic number.

Junior Common Room.

Wisconsin Junior Common Room mainly referred to as JCR is a place where you for games and entertainment. It is a cool place to ward off the campus stress and have fun playing table tennis, pool, snooker or playstation 3 game. SRC executives can also visit the JCR for free breakfast. Students can also enjoy blazing fast internet connection for a whole semester, all at the junior common room of Wisconsin.

SRC Office.

The SRC (Student Representative Council) are students who are elected to manage the affairs of other students in WIUC. If you have complaints or experience any problems or needed some help form the school, you can start by visiting the SRC who will champion the issue for you. You don’t visit the school administration for issues concerning you without first referring to the SRC.

Wisconsin Business Center.

The business center is where you go for the printing of your learning materials (Lecture Handouts) mostly at cheaper prices. Handouts for all disciplines,  from 1 Lower to 4 Upper, are kept at the business center . So if you are looking for any handout or you want to run a photocopy of any handout, you can visit the Business Center and ask them about the handout. You can easily locate the business when you are entering campus  from the main gate. The picture of the business center however, is shown below for clarity.

















Wisconsin Cafeteria.

The cafeteria is where  students visit for buying edibles. You can check out the cafeteria and see if their food menu is according to your taste, I am sure it will.
