However, the universities is few and cannot meet the demand of the inhabitants and the foreigners that troops into the country yearly for tertiary education. Nigerians being at the top of the list. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. - University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) University of Mines and Technology although a young university, is one of the top universities in the nation. It was established in November 2004 to offer higher education in mining, technology and other related sciences. Already known for its mining related programs, the university also offers degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical / Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. UMAT is located at about 89km from Takoradi, the Western Regional Capital and off the high way.
