What Do you Think?
I will share with you what I know. Nigerians don't seem to realize two things:One, if every students in the country should stay back and wait for admission in the country, there will be a great number, and when I say great I mean greater number of illiterates, and drop out in the country than ever heard in history or will ever be heard. Nigerian university train about 320,000 students out of 1.7 million candidate that sit for UTME examination. You do the math and I dare you to prove me wrong!
Two, too big does not mean too good. It is because of the fact that Ghanaian universities are too small that Nigerians receive the quality education denied them in Nigeria. Ghana knows better than anyone that their country is small and their universities not too big, so they have put measures in place to solve the puzzle. For instance, when you want to study Medicine, Geology, Nursing, you will not be admitted into Wisconsin International University College, Accra neither will you gain admission to Zenith College or Sikkim Manipal. Why?
Because they know that the environment is too small for students to study those courses in their establishment. No matter the amount of bribe you give them, it is just not going to work because they will be the one to recommend University of Ghana Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast among others who can train you in that field.
So it turns out that though Ghanaians universities is not too big compared to big structures and an entire village that is used for university in Nigeria, they teach courses that can be taught in those so called one-block universities. And believe me, they produce elite students and those that earn good reputation in the work place.
So if you ask me, I will say that the Nigerian government should negotiate or better still talk to Ghana and see if Nigerians here will pay their tuition in their local currency. Ghana is our neighbouring country and I see them as nothing less than brothers and sisters. We might have our differences but I still believe that we are African's and should care for each other and live united!
They are helping us to do what we are unable to do back there in Nigeria. And if you are an employer and you keep bluffing that you will never hire students from Ghana, you are missing out. Though most us will not come knocking at your doors because we will be creating jobs when we come back to Nigeria.
