Real Life Examples of Probability.

Have you been taught Probability? Do you understand Probability? Probability have got real life examples. You may come across this topic (Probability) in Wizzyland. Students share a different views about this topic. Some believe it is very interesting while some believe it is just a headache.

Well, in this blog post, I am sharing with you some examples of real life probability. That will improve your understanding of the topic and for those that hate probability, you might even begin to appreciate it; after all unlike other topics in mathematics, it applies in real life.

Aristotle once said, “The probable is what usually happens.”  In campus, you cannot predict what will happen next, but you can use mathematical probability to determine how likely it is that something will or will not happen.

The importance of probabilities in business cannot be overemphasized. Today, people often use probabilities to make better choices in their lives. You may not realize it, but you use probability in many facets of your daily life.

Sports.

When your team has a coin toss before the game, you have a 50/50 chance of winning it: either heads or tails. A basketball player steps up to the free throw line and has a good idea, based on past performance, whether he is going to  make the shot or not.

Board Games

If you are using a game spinner with four sections – red, blue, green and yellow, you have a 25 percent chance of landing on red, since one of the four sections is red. What are the odds that you are going to roll one die and get an even number? You have a 50 percent chance, since three of the six numbers on a die are even. This is simple probability.

Medical Decisions

If you are told you need surgery, you will want to know the success rate of the operation. Based upon the statistics, you can make an informed decision whether or not it is a good choice for you. You might decide whether or not to begin a course of medication, based on other patients' positive outcomes or side effects.

Insurance Premiums

Car insurance companies look at your age and driving record when deciding your premium rate. If they see you have had several accidents, the likelihood is that you might have another one. In that case, your rates will be higher than someone who is a  safe driver.

Life Expectancy

Life expectancy is based upon the number of years similar groups have lived in the past. These ages are used as guidelines by entities such as financial advisers to help clients prepare for their retirement years. In recent times, it is stated that the life expectancy of human beings on earth is 70 years.

Casino Games

Casino owners are not  in the business to lose their money. The odds are in their favor. Gamblers play the games, in hopes of defying those odds. In the game of blackjack, a player has a 1 in 20 chance of getting 21, a "blackjack." The probability is 5 percent.

Weather

If you are planning an outdoor event such as a wedding, you will want to check the probability of rain. Meteorologists predict weather based upon patterns that have occurred in previous years. Temperatures and natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods and hurricanes factor into forecasts.

These and many more are all probabilities in the real life. They are nothing different from what we have been taught in school. with these examples, probability should make sense to you by now. These examples above are pretty easy to comprehend than the complex probabilities problems you will find in mathematics.

But one thing you should understand is: from these examples came those mathematical problems. Understand these examples well and let it sink in your head, the mathematical problems can be solved later.
